| Games of this genre may be based on a lot of different software engines, they can therefore be very different in many respects. What they have in common though is that they require both puzzle solving abilities and manual dexterity of the player. In addition they have a strong emphasis on adventure and story telling.
To me these are what I will call complete games. That is when we talk about games of an adventurous nature (not card games, board games or pure puzzle games). Games of this genre are therefore among my greatest favourites.
They can have very different types of stories and concepts though and, as with all other games as well as films and books, if the story and/or mentality of the game does not appeal to you, you will of course not like the product.
I know that many adventure gamers prefer games that require no manual dexterity, while many action gamers can do without puzzle solving and/or story lines. The action adventure game is therefore relatively rare. A more modern and very famous series of games that do fit into this genre however is the Tomb Raider series.
